This isn’t my first official topic, but I wanted to post a quick something reminding people to vote if they’ve taken an interest in politics. Also, I have a related question I’d like some other opinions on.
You see, I think everyone should vote, unless they haven’t researched the issues or candidates. If you haven’t bothered to find out who is running and what the ballot questions are before showing up at the polls, I really wish you’d stay home. I’m pretty sure anyone following this blog pays a good amount of attention to election races, but a lot of people don’t and just show up to vote party lines. I found out that these are called “Yellow Dog Democrats” by the Democrats down here and they love them. I’m assuming there’s a similar name for Republicans who vote party lines without consideration. The parties love these people because they don’t have to court them or worry about losing them.
Personally, I believe these people are a huge problem for this country. Blind faith in either political party is how you end up consistently voting against your interests without even realizing it.
On the other hand, if you really don’t care about the person you are electing as long as they support the party platform you do care about… then that’s still democracy, right?
Just something to chew on while we wait for tonight’s results.
